CHANEL LA PLAGE #CHANELByTheSea
At Chanel, Life is a Beach. Karl Lagerfeld brought the Sea to the Grand Palais. A boardwalk, lifeguards and an ocean with waves lapping along a sandy shore. Inspired by the shores of Sylt, the German island that Karl frequented as a child. The water touched an immense trope l’oeil photo backdrop of a sea-view, complete with distant mountains and clouds speckling the sky. Chanel’s zest for life. And the happenings outside the show venue. Busy streets, a well dressed Chanel crowd, such as the most influential street style photographers to get the shot done.
Closer to-the-detail or better ready for a C-swim: The beach theme hit a high note in straw hats, seashell embroideries and parasol prints. The models walked barefoot in the sandy runway while presenting the beach perfect ready-to-wear pieces. Lagerfeld leaned into a retro logo-mania, with brightly colored cardigans and ’80s prints with bouts of classic Chanel signatures like tweet and suiting. A beautifully wearable collection á la plage. As for the spring/summer19 season, the brand’s classic flap bags were seen in double.
Two flaps were carried across the body which comes with pearl straps. The show was held on a grey autumnal day in Paris, and Karl ensured that summer stuck around and managed to spirit the Paris Fashion Week crowd to an idyllic beach-escape. Coco Chanel, had a longtime love affair with the beach – she would holiday in the seaside resort of Deauville in Normandy, and the sea was always a constant inspiration and so the beach remains central to the brand. Ready for #ChanelSpringSummer2019 to come and to escape and cover up in Chanel to a summer getaway in the South of France? Because we are! Joie de Vivre.
