I have been invited to celebrate Audemars Piguet’s 40th Anniversary in beautiful Florence. A three-day unforgettable trip in excellent company and beautiful AP creations of finest watches. The first day started in a casual atmosphere. We stayed at the Westin Excelsior where we also had the chance to interview both designers, Jaqueline Dimier and Carolina Bucci at the St. Regis across the street. Both incredible and elegant characters that impressed me immediately. For the 40th Anniversary Audemars Piguet partnered up with a Florentine jewelry designer and released the new Royal Oak reinterpreted by Carolina Bucci with a frosted gold finish. The first ladies Royal Oak was designed in 1976 by on of the most important female designers – Jaqueline Dimier. So, now the new Royal Oak comes now in two metals, white and rose gold, and two sizes, 33mm and 37mm.
Frosted Gold: It’s the result of an ancient technique (Florentine technique) where gold is hammered repeatedly until it creates an evenly textured, shimmering appearance on the surface of the metal. Carolina Bucci who is herself a Florentine jewelry designer, has been using the techniques for decades. The effect of the frosted gold Royal Oak is understated but definitely noticeable on the wrist. The watches will be released at SIHH 2017. But how come that AP teamed up with Carolina Bucci? The CEO of Audemars Piguet François-Henry Bennahmias and Carolina Bucci have become acquainted through out mutual friends. Carolina Bucci wears herself a Audemars Piguet which was gifted by her husband for her 35th birthday. A man’s yellow-gold Royal Oak from 1983 that was out of production was the one which they managed to to track down to a dealer in London – and she is wearing it ever since. Carolina Bucci as an successful jewelry designer is the epitome of AP.
In 2013, François-Henry Bennahmias and Carolina Bucci started the idea to apply her signature goldsmithing techniques to the women’s Royal Oak. It took seven attempts to the perfect finish. Audemars Piguet’s manufacture took over the process. An iconic watch designed by a woman for women. To me one of the most beautiful watches. Audemars Piguet took us out for lunch, typical italian cuisine was here on the program, then a perfume workshop at Aqua Flor where I have created my very own scent, followed by the international press conference with François-Henry Bennahmias, Freida Pinto, Jaqueline Dimier and Carolina Bucci. Ending up with the Gala Event at the breathtaking Palazzo Vecchio. Audemars Piguet CEO François-Henry Bennahmias entertained the guests in a very charming and funny way. It felt like family and being a part of Audemars Piguet. Actress Freida Pinto who is ambassador of AP was also present that evening. The fascinating atmosphere reflected the new interpretation of the Royal Oak.
